Areas of Practice

John is a dedicated barrister with strong commercial experience. He brings more than 20 years of practical knowledge from managing complex operations and regulatory compliance in the financial and technology sectors.

 

He completed his pupillage under the supervision of Mr Yeung Ming Tai, Mr Albert Luk, Ms Helen Au, and Mr Lincoln Cheung. During his training, he gained valuable experience in property and loan disputes, trust matters, injunctions, fraud recovery, criminal defence, and family law. John joined Anthony Rogers Chambers immediately after finishing his pupillage.

 

John accepts instructions in all areas of civil and criminal law. He is well equipped to handle complex legal cases.

Court Experience

  • Court Marshal, District Court of Hong Kong (Oct 2024)

John served as a Court Marshal under the supervision of District Judge Clement Lee, gaining direct exposure to criminal adjudication. His duties included summarising complex evidence from witness statements, forensic reports, bank and asset analyses, electronic records, and expert opinions to establish factual contexts. He conducted legal research addressing issues of criminal liability, intent, joint enterprise, and conspiracy, while evaluating sentencing guidelines and mitigation factors.

 

  • Court Marshal, District Court of Hong Kong (May – Jun 2022)

John served as a Court Marshal under the supervision of District Judge Andrew Li Shu Yuk, gaining invaluable insight into the judicial decision-making process for civil matters. His duties included attending trials and hearings, taking detailed notes, and providing practical litigation support. He conducted legal research on personal injury cases, evaluating precedents to address liability and quantum of damages.

 

Community Service & Volunteer Work

John is an active contributor to the community. He currently serves as a finance committee member for SideBySide, a Hong Kong non-profit organisation, where he provides financial governance and strategic oversight (2024–Present). Previously, he provided pro bono legal advice at Helpology, assisting vulnerable groups in Hong Kong with employment, immigration, and human rights issues (2022).
