Practice:

Ricky practices in all areas of work with an emphasis on criminal, matrimonial and personal injury matters. He has appeared as a sole advocate or a led junior in the High Court, District Court and Magistrates’ Courts.

 

Ricky’s criminal practice ranges widely from white-collar money laundering to departmental summonses (including labour, inland revenue, etc) as well as road traffic matters. His practice also extends to disciplinary proceedings (e.g. the Fire Services Department).

 

In his matrimonial practice, Ricky advises and represents clients in divorce petitions, matrimonial finances disputes and child custody disputes. With a high interest in children law, Ricky also lectured on the topic of child custody in the Master of Social Work program (legal issues for the social worker), The City University of Hong Kong.

 

Ricky also has experience in personal injury, insurance, trust and land related matters.

 

Ricky joined Anthony Rogers Chambers and started his practice at the Bar after completing his pupilage with Ms. Annie Lai, Mr. Victor Gidwani, Mr. Victor Ho, and Mr. Enzo Chow. He accepts instructions in all areas of civil and criminal work.

 

Selected Cases:

 

HKSAR v Fan Suk Wai, HCMA 648/2015: acted for the appellant, appealing against conviction of the charge employing the unemployable; applied for admitting fresh evidence (led by Mr. Victor Ho).

 

HKSAR v Wong Chuck Pan, HCMA 523/2016 (pending judgment); acted for the appellant, appealing against convictions of the charges driving without license and others; argued on the admissibility of oral admissions by a child suspect suffering Dyslexia and ADHD (led by Mr. Victor Ho).

 

CKY v WYK, FCMC 12002/2014 (pending judgment); acted for the petitioner for ancillary relief against the respondent, revealing the respondent’s non-disclosure and projecting his hidden assets at trial (led by Mr. Herbert Leung).

 

China Development Bank Corp. v Mak Ki Chi and Another, DCCJ 4490/2014: acted for the plaintiff to recover the loss of a vehicle in a car accident; successfully claimed full damages as pleaded.

 

Li Kam Cheong v Chung Cheong Shing, DCCJ 5702/2016: acted for the plaintiff and successfully got a mandatory injunction against the defendant tenant to abolish the unauthorized building work constructed on the plaintiff landlord’s premises (led by Mr. Enzo Chow).

 

Yim Wai Ling and Another v Yuen Chik Wah and Another, DCCJ 663/2013: acted for the Defendants in this water leakage case; successfully defended most of the damages pleaded, leading to a low judgment award which fell below the defendants’ sanctioned payment and even fell within the jurisdiction of the Small Claim Tribunal (led by Mr. Victor Gidwani).

 

Ricky also acted/ advised/ conduct researches:

 

On behalf of a wife carrying her child to Hong Kong where the marriage and family were in Australia, and resisting the husband’s application for return of the child pursuant to the Hague Convention 1981 (led by Mr. Enzo Chow).

 

Languages:

Ricky can conduct cases and draft pleadings in both English and Chinese. He is native in Cantonese and fluent in English and Mandarin.
